Report on the Telecommunications Value Chain in Italy

11/03/2026 - 03:00 PM

The “Report on the Telecommunications Value Chain in Italy, 2026 Edition” provides a detailed analysis of developments in a sector that remains strategic to the country’s digital transformation and accounts for 6.2% of Italian GDP when the direct, indirect and induced effects are combined with productivity and efficiency gains for businesses and workers in other sectors. Data traffic continues to grow at double-digit rates compared with the previous year, and in 2025 the share carried over mobile networks reached 22% of the total (it was just 4% in 2010). This requires significant investment, amounting to approximately 24% of revenues and rising to 27% when resources from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) are included, despite a decline of around one third in gross revenues since 2010. The report also highlights the transformations under way in the sector – including changes in the revenue mix, the entry of satellite operators, the impact of new technologies and the need to develop new skills – and identifies the actions required to support the evolution of Italy’s telecommunications ecosystem.
