Technology Digital Literacy

The Project by OPGE and TIM designed to foster digital citizenship.

03/22/2023 - 10:50 AM

Technology Digital Literacy is the project promoted by the Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori in collaboration with TIM, now in its fourth year.

The project is aimed at schools enrolled in the “Il Quotidiano in Classe” (Daily newspapers in the Classroom) initiative, the Observatory's historic project designed to guide the younger generations in the development of a critical awareness, with the objective of combining a media literacy course with a technological literacy course for secondary school students and their teachers.

Specifically, the course is developed around three main steps: teacher training, classroom lessons, research. Students begin by reading specific newspaper articles that stimulate their critical thinking in order to make a broader and more articulate reflection on certain key words identified jointly with TIM and explored in the 'Workbooks', tools that are produced for each edition and that provide teachers with methodological cues and didactic paths for teaching the lessons in the classroom.

Fifteen subject areas are chosen each year, which are then translated into as many lessons with the aim of drawing the students' attention back to the process of thinking and handling issues required for a constructive approach to the digital world. Think before you click and share, stimulating awareness, knowledge of risks and the ability to grasp the infinite potential that digital technology offers us.

This year's themes are: NFT, Metaverse, e-Sports, Green Deal, Neural networks, Work/life balance, Customer journey, Data security, Data/cloud storage, Society 5.0, Robotics and machine ethics, Gender gap, Digital skills, Digitalisation of enterprises, Circular economy, indispensable knowledge for young digital citizens in today's schools.

The course also includes a Teacher's Handbook that explores various topics related to the new digital professions, which will also be addressed in meetings with teachers. The digital professions chosen for this school year are:

  1. The builder of virtual worlds
  2. The communicator in the Metaverse
  3. The video game manufacturer
  4. The content creator
  5. The Diversity and Inclusion Manager
  6. The digital musician
  7. The ESG manager
  8. The Energy manager
  9. The wearable device developer
  10. The smart home designer

Thanks to the power of connections, we overcome space and time, we learn and grow by integrating digital tools into our daily lives; this is why TIM and Osservatorio Permanente Giovani-Editori are collaborating to offer their experience and expertise to support schools in deepening Technology Digital Literacy with the aim of promoting a conscious use of technology.

Materials produced in previous editions are available on the project website.
