Some follow the evolution of technology. Others, like us, help shape it.
At TIM, we work every day within the leading international environments where networks, digital services and technology standards that drive the digital future are developed.
Our colleagues take part in European and international working groups focused on 5G and 6G, cloud, cybersecurity, AI, interoperability and new network architectures, often playing coordination roles as well. This work is built on expertise, continuous dialogue and collaboration with leading global innovation players, helping shape the digital evolution of the coming years together with companies, universities, research centers and institutions around the world.
Where TIM contributes
We participate in the main organizations shaping strategies and the evolution of the telecommunications sector at both European and global level:
- GSMA – the global association of mobile operators, where strategies for the worldwide mobile market are defined;
- Connect Europe – the European reference point for telecommunications, focused on innovation, networks and policies supporting sector competitiveness.
We contribute to international working groups where technical standards, architectures and rules guiding networks and digital services are defined:
- ITU – the United Nations agency coordinating global telecommunications and radio spectrum standards and regulation;
- 3GPP – the international body developing 5G and future 6G technology standards;
- ETSI – the organization defining telecommunications technical standards on behalf of the European Union;
- ISO – the international organization for standards and regulations;
- CEI Norme, UNI and UNINFO – the Italian bodies responsible for technical, IT and digital standardization.
We are active in several international technology alliances working on projects and technologies that will transform the way we live and work:
- O-RAN Alliance – for more open, flexible and innovative mobile networks;
- 5G Automotive Association – for the development of connected and intelligent mobility;
- European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud – to strengthen Europe’s digital autonomy in data and cloud;
- Linux Foundation and Wi‑Fi Alliance – global ecosystems accelerating innovation, interoperability and technology development.
Finally, we are involved in several collaborative projects, such as IPCEI, which help strengthen European digital sovereignty through an increasingly strategic use of Open Source technologies
Being present in these contexts means contributing concretely to the decisions that will guide Europe’s digital evolution: from next-generation networks to intelligent services, all the way to security and Italy’s competitiveness.
