TIM Edge & Cloud Continuum at the "Successi e sfide per l'Italia" event

The IPCEI-CIS project presented at the MIMIT conference in Trento

The event " Successi e Sfide per l'Italia ", organized by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (MIMIT) to promote innovation and the digital transformation of the country, took place in Trento on February 25 and 26.

The event represents the second step of a larger roadshow across Italy and putted emerging technologies and European collaboration for digitalization at the center of the debate.

During the two days, experts, institutions, and entrepreneurs discussed with particular attention to Quantum and Cloud Computing. The first day was dedicated to territorial innovation ecosystems, with the participation of the “Case delle Tecnologie Emergenti” and the “Centri di Competenza” funded by the Ministry. These entities presented their research and experimentation projects, underlining the importance of technology transfer to small and medium-sized enterprises.

The second day focused the discussion on the Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI), which promote collaboration between resources and skills from across the European Union to promote radical innovations and technologies of strategic importance.

It is precisely in this context that TIM had the opportunity to talk about "Edge & Cloud Continuum" (ECC), the project of which it is the leader. Roberto Procopio, Head of Technology Innovation, illustrated the results achieved and the Italian companies that are collaborating in the integrated testing environment, which includes 14 companies in 5 EU countries.

The aim of the project is to develop a cloud-edge infrastructure based on open source technologies and automation mechanisms that use artificial intelligence and machine learning, and to guarantee interoperability between multiple solutions across different countries. This approach not only simplifies the management of cloud/edge instances, but also promotes green and financially sustainable solutions and supports various concrete use cases in strategic sectors such as mobility, health and cultural heritage.
