Opensignal — the independent global standard for measuring the user experience of mobile networks — has awarded TIM a total of 6 Global Awards, placing TIM in the top spot in Europe for 5G mobile network download speed. The award is the result of an independent analysis carried out on data collected from 1 January to 29 June 2021 and was announced in the 5G Global Mobile Network Experience Awards* report.
The analysis, published by Opensignal, also places TIM in the top 30 global operators committed to improving performance in the transition from 4G to 5G in terms of download and upload speeds. In particular, TIM users achieved an average 5G download speed of 296.5 Mbps, over 1,000% faster than 4G speeds, an achievement reached by only 6 operators worldwide. The quality of multimedia content delivery and the gaming experience, which is one of the most data-intensive activities, improved the most. TIM also appears among Opensignal's 26 Global Leaders for upload speed, which especially benefits creators of original content and those who share a lot of content online.
Overall, the report highlights the actions of global operators who, driven by the increased demand dictated by the most difficult periods during the COVID-19 pandemic and aided by increasing availability of 5G terminals, have produced an unprecedented effort to improve the performance of mobile networks.
The award for TIM comes on top of recent recognition from other independent analysts such as Ookla®, which last July recognised TIM as Italy's fastest 5G mobile network (Ookla® analysis of Speedtest Intelligence® data on median 5G download speeds in Italy from April to June 2021) and awarded TIM the Best Mobile Coverage Award for the best mobile network coverage (Ookla® analysis of Speedtest Intelligence® data for the first half of 2021). This is further confirmation of our company's growing commitment to the development and deployment of ultra-broadband networks which, together with cloud technologies and Artificial Intelligence, are key levers for the digitalisation of the country.
