The paediatric care portal of the Bambino Gesù Hospital is one year old. The portal (http://www.ospedalebambinogesu.it/), set up and run by a business consortium including the hospital itself and the Finsiel Group – the Information Technology Business Unit of Telecom Italia, has proved a useful tool for both health care professionals and the public at large.
The aim of the project is to improve the health and quality of life of children as well as providing doctors and specialists with the means for keeping up to date with and finding out more about developments in their fields. The portal has become a new way of offering health care in the world of e-health, able to satisfy the demand for assistance, however far away, with advisory and consulting services.
In addition to creating a Baby Portal for the very young where they can play a traditional board game on-line, illustrated with drawings by the young patients, and a story based on a child’s personal experience in the hospital (Jade’s Story), Finsiel has also set up a dynamic and versatile technology area where health workers can participate in distance training courses. The on-line courses, developed in collaboration with Bambino Gesù doctors and sponsored by the Ministry of Health, enable health workers to follow flexible refresher training courses according to their interests and professional commitments.
Finally an information area, the technical aspects of which are run by Finsiel with the support of the Roman hospital’s medical staff, provides information, consultation and support services for parents and families
