Telecom Italia and Sony Pictures Television International: video on-demand (VOD) agreement to show films on “ALICE HOME TV” and “ROSSO ALICE”

Recent releases and classics from the US major including “The Da Vinci Code”, “Serpico”, “Godzilla”, “The Mask of Zorro” and “Men In Black”on Telecom Italia’s TV via Internet service and on its ADSL portal

Telecom Italia and Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) have struck a deal to offer on-demand major blockbuster movies from the US movie studio on “Alice Home TV”, Telecom Italia’s TV via Internet service, and on Rosso Alice, Telecom’s Italia ADSL portal.

Starting in September, viewers will be able to choose from a wide selection of hit action pics, science fiction, thrillers, comedies, kids movies, dramas and romances, including “The Da Vinci Code”, “Serpico” “Godzilla”, “The Mask of Zorro”, “Erin Brockovich”, “Men In Black”, “Stuart Little” and more, as well as Sony Pictures classics from the studio’s back catalogue.

This new deal enhances Telecom Italia’s movie offerings with recent big-screen releases.
The Alice Home TV annual offer includes approximately 2.500 titles from the leading Italians and international major, of which 500 available on-demand with 200 updates a month.

“The agreement with Sony marks another step forward in the development of our offering of on-demand content for both IPTV and Internet platforms” said Massimo Castelli, Chief Marketing Officer of Telecom Italia. “Alice Home TV and Rosso Alice have established themselves as significant channels for content distribution, of films in particular, and from the major studios.”

“This agreement marks an important milestone for SPTI as we increase and diversify our distribution platforms in Europe” commented Stuart Baxter, Senior Vice President of European Distribution for SPTI. “The Italian TV landscape is changing dramatically with the emergence of IPTV and the growth of pay TV and we are delighted to be working with one of the key drivers in this market”. 

 

About Alice Home TV
“Alice Home TV” is Telecom Italia’s TV-via-internet service (IPTV) over ADSL telephone lines at speeds of up to 20 megabits per second. The service delivers movies, sport, news and music direct to TV sets, and offers broadband internet navigation too. Films are available for viewing for 24 hours after purchase.
IPTV service has been rolled out to 200 cities across Italy (including all main cities). By the end of 2006, over 250 cities will have coverage.
