Telecom Italia has signed a contract with UIRNet – an umbrella
company for Italy’s freight logistics centres – to supply mobile
telephony products and services worth an estimated €15 million.
The
contract was signed after the company won a call for tenders. Under the
10-year deal, Telecom Italia is exclusively to supply UIRNet and its
operating companies with SIM cards and telephony, messaging, broadband
data transmission, localization and dedicated assistance services. The
contract also includes an option for the provision of vehicular and
personal mobile telephones, associated centralized management systems,
and additional technologically-advanced services.
For UIRNet,
this strategic agreement will make it possible to guarantee the
information flows it requires to and from road hauliers and shipping
contractors, by bringing into service a nationwide logistics network
management platform built on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure
and Transport. Through implementation of this platform, UIRNet is keen
to make the entire system more efficient. The company will be able to
trace, monitor and manage flows in real-time, and speed up logistics
operations at its freight transfer hubs.
