TIM is the new co-founding member of the Venice Sustainability Foundation

The Group, a leader in the ICT sector, offers skills and expertise for managing the digital transition

01/17/2023 - 11:00 AM

TIM has joined the co-founding members of the Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF). The Group, a leader in the ICT sector in Italy and at the forefront in deploying solutions for smart and sustainable cities, will make available to the Foundation its unique expertise in digital technologies in the fields of 5G, IoT, Cloud, AI, Analytics, Cybersecurity and HPC to support mobility and sustainable tourism, the green transition and citizens’ health and safety. These areas of work are among the pillars of the TIM Group’s ESG strategy and play a key role in the life of the city of Venice and its ability to develop sustainably.

TIM and the Foundation consider the digital transition to be a powerful driver of solutions for the efficient management of the city, citizens’ well-being and the sustainable use of the urban fabric. In particular, the Group, which has already made Venice the first Italian smart city thanks to the Smart Control Room Project, will draw on its own experience and specialised skills to ensure environmental monitoring and the development of energy efficiency evaluation systems, the improvement of the visitor’s digital experience as well as the creation of digital services to support the health and safety of the community. Thanks to data management, it will be possible to govern phenomena within the city, such as tourism, in the most appropriate way, handling their impact and improving the quality of life of those living and working in Venice and its metropolitan surroundings.

“With TIM becoming a co-founding partner - says the President of the VSF, Renato Brunetta- we welcome a leader in the digital transition process. As the broad participation of the TIM Group indicates, it covers many of the strategic areas of interest to the Foundation. We share not only the desire to create a new sustainability model that starts with Venice, but also the idea that the future must involve skills and innovative solutions that can make real change in our daily lives”.

“We are very proud to be able to work alongside the Venice Sustainability Foundation and to share our expertise and assets – says Pietro Labriola, TIM’s Chief Executive Officer –. Venice is a city of great importance for our company: this is in fact where we started to develop the Smart Control Room, together with local institutions. This was a pilot project for the development of smart cities, synonymous with innovation and sustainability, which we want to recreate nationwide. By becoming a co-founding partner we are confirming our ties with Venice and our commitment to being at the forefront in accelerating the digitalisation of Italy”.
