A tangible commitment towards promoting knowledge, rights, and scientific progress. TIM Foundation, chaired by Alberta Figari, is launching its annual programme, allocating 1.5 million euros to support the most innovative ideas and projects in the fields of scientific research, social inclusion, and health.
This year, the TIM Foundation project aims to address some of the challenges considered most urgent: from combating university dropout, to supporting women who are victims of violence, to advanced research in precision medicine.
The three calls for proposals are directed towards the technical-scientific faculties of Italian universities, towards non-profit sheltering organisations for women who are victims of violence and towards university clinics, medical schools, and research centres in the field of healthcare. Each call for proposals envisages a maximum grant of 500,000 euros, which can be allocated to one or more projects with a duration of 24 months.
“We firmly believe in the power of ideas: through this initiative, we want to give a tangible signal and concrete support to all the men and women who work every day to make our university faculties more accessible, in supporting women victims of violence and to forcefully pursue advanced scientific research in the healthcare sector, which is now more essential than ever in improving people’s life prospects” states Alberta Figari, Chair of TIM and of the Foundation.
“The projects promoted will be able to provide personalised care to the people they ultimately target: students in the course of their university studies, women who are victims of violence receiving psychological support and help with re-entering the workplace and patients with serious illnesses during their treatment” adds Giorgia Floriani, General Manager of the TIM Foundation.
The three intervention areas
Scientific research - The first call aims to combat university dropout rates by supporting projects to create digital adaptive tutoring platforms, based on advanced technologies and AI, with the capacity to personalise learning, improve academic performance, and prevent the interruption of studies. The call is directed towards the technical-scientific faculties of Italian universities and university research centres.
Social inclusion - The second call is dedicated to strengthening second-stage shelters for women who are victims of violence. The support will be targeted at non-profit organisations engaged in processes of sheltering, psychological support, workforce re-entry, and strengthening parental roles. The objective will be to guarantee the stability and autonomy necessary for women to rebuild their own lives and those of their children with safety, dignity, and their rights in their entirety.
Health - The third call aims to strengthen biomedical research by supporting projects in molecular biology and biotechnologies applied to precision medicine. The objective is to promote increasingly personalised and technologically advanced diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. University clinics, medical schools, and health research centres and institutes can submit proposals in this field of contemporary and future medicine.
