TIM FOUNDATION: WINNING PROJECTS SELECTED IN RESEARCH, INCLUSION AND HEALTH SECTORS

€1.5 million awarded to universities, hospitals and domestic violence centres in Milan, Siena and Rome

01/16/2026 - 12:00 PM

The TIM Foundation – led by Alberta Figari as chairwoman and Giorgia Floriani as General Manager – has awarded €1.5 million to six outstanding Italian institutions following its 2025 calls for proposals. The funding aims to support cutting-edge initiatives in scientific research, social inclusion and healthcare.

The University of Siena and the Politecnico di Milano won the 'Research' grant for the development of AI-based tools to help university students succeed and reduce dropout rates, through two innovative projects that combine technology and education. The University of Siena plans to build a platform for customised tutoring, mental health tracking and peer support, while the Politecnico is developing a self-assessment system featuring practice tasks, mock exams and personalised advice.

In the inclusion sector, the Asilo Mariuccia Foundation and the Casa di Accoglienza delle Donne Maltrattate secured the funding aimed at enhancing support for women and children suffering from domestic violence. The first will set up a versatile space with digital tools for training in shop management, digital marketing and e-commerce, coupled with mentoring and psychological-educational support. The second proposed a social housing scheme with hands-on job experience and placements in catering, baking, dressmaking, restoration and woodworking.

Lastly, the Buzzi Children's Hospital Foundation in Milan and the San Raffaele Scientific Research Institute in Rome (IRCCS) won the funds from the 'Health' grant, aimed at advancing biomedical research. The Buzzi Foundation is aiming to develop a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment for paediatric burns to minimise scarring, while the San Raffaele Hospital has proposed a Parkinson's disease study to find new indicators for early detection and personalised treatments.

The enthusiastic response to the calls for proposals, which went far beyond expectations, confirms how TIM Foundation provides a tangible opportunity for non-profits and academia to address crucial challenges in making universities more accessible, supporting women victims of violence, and contributing to advanced medical and scientific research,” says Alberta Figari, Chairwoman of TIM and TIM Foundation, emphasising, in particular that “the project put forward by the Buzzi Children's Hospital Foundation addresses issues that have unfortunately become very topical following the recent Crans-Montana tragedy.

The TIM Foundation faces two challenges with these calls for proposals. The first is to support the organisations in developing these projects, which touch on such sensitive issues, for a full two years.  The other aspect is working with institutions doing research in the field of health, which is a key part of all our livesadded Giorgia Floriani, General Manager of the TIM Foundation.
