TIM is expanding its sovereign Artificial Intelligence infrastructure and collaborating with NVIDIA to provide Italian businesses, Public Administrations, startups and research centres with advanced capabilities to develop and deploy AI applications at scale while maintaining control over data, models and operations within Italy.
The AI platform, developed by TIM Enterprise and hosted in Italy, will integrate the Group’s centralized cloud and distributed edge footprint with NVIDIA full-stack AI infrastructure, offering next-generation computing power with controls that support requirements for data residency, access governance, security and regulatory compliance.
“Artificial Intelligence is a tangible driver of competitiveness, and today’s challenge is to make it accessible at scale without relinquishing control over data and processes. By combining our infrastructure with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and AI technologies, TIM is building a platform in Italy that can support businesses, the Public Administration and innovators in developing AI applications from the cloud to the edge. Technology is the means: what matters is turning it into real-world applications, growth and value for the country”, said Pietro Labriola, TIM Chief Executive Officer.
TIM Enterprise will also offer managed services for open and customizable models, including the NVIDIA Nemotron family, enabling customers to host, fine-tune, evaluate and operate models through the platform. These services will enable organizations to adapt open models to their language, domain expertise, and operational processes, while benefiting from greater transparency, control and cost efficiency and, through NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails, customers will also be able to apply programmable controls and policies to their AI applications.
The platform will also support the hosting, evaluation, and operation of specialized models developed by Italian universities, research centres, enterprises, and AI-native companies, with the aim of fostering the growth of an open and competitive national Artificial Intelligence ecosystem.
The initiative is part of TIM’s strategy to progressively extend AI processing capabilities from centralized cloud to the distributed edge, bringing accelerated computing closer to where data is generated and used. As part of the IPCEI CIS – Important Project of Common European Interest on Cloud Infrastructure and Services – TIM is developing Edge Cloud nodes distributed across Italy, equipped with NVIDIA GPUs and designed to support applications that require processing close to the data source and low latency.
