TIM has been confirmed in S&P Global’s Dow Jones Best in Class Europe (DJ BIC Europe) index – one of the leading sustainability indices – ranking among the leading companies in its sector, with the highest Corporate Sustainability Assessment score among telecoms companies on the continent – 88 out of 100 – and in the top 10% globally. This recognition demonstrates TIM’s ongoing commitment to improving its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
The Dow Jones Best-in-Class (DJ BIC) indices, which have replaced the former Dow Jones Sustainability (DJSI) indices, select the companies with the best ESG performance within their respective sectors, through a comparative assessment conducted by S&P Global based on a broad set of indicators that include governance, risk management, quality of reporting, human capital and stakeholder relations, as well as environmental factors. Inclusion in the index confirms TIM’s ability to combine technological transformation, industrial discipline and ESG responsibility, in line with a strategy geared towards creating sustainable value in the medium to long term.
Pietro Labriola, TIM CEO, said: “TIM’s inclusion among the leading companies in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index is a significant milestone, as it highlights to the market the work we are pursuing with determination. Sustainability indicators are providing practical guidance for our strategic and operational decisions: from reducing CO₂ emissions through efficiency improvements, new technologies and AI applications, to the certifications we have obtained; from our reorganization aimed at achieving gender balance to the reduction of penalties; and right through to risk management. These are all key elements we consider essential to strengthening our position as a Group in the medium and long term. In recent years, we have simplified our operating model, reduced our environmental impact and aligned our infrastructure and services with growth objectives that are sustainable from an economic perspective as well. The value of this recognition lies precisely here: in highlighting that TIM’s transformation is proceeding along an industrial trajectory founded on discipline, innovation, environmental responsibility and a focus on people”.
Inclusion in sustainability indices is becoming an increasingly important issue for the financial community as well, which is paying ever greater attention to incorporating ESG criteria into its assessments. For investors, the quality of governance, responsible resource management, operational resilience and the ability to mitigate environmental and social risks are factors that contribute to a company’s long-term stability.
