Telecom Italia will be giving the pone cabinets located in Verona’s old town a makeover, adorning them with photographs of the city’s most famous and suggestive monuments.

The photos include different perspectives of the Palazzo della Ragione, the statue of Dante Alighieri in Piazza dei Signori, the Madonna Verona fountain in Piazza delle Erbe and the Lamberti Tower. These images will embellish the doors of Telecom Italia’s telephone cabinets, on the streets of Florence, which connect the client’s home phones to their local hub.

Thanks to a special adhesive film the artistic images will cover the cabinets which are already outfitted with state-of-the-art metallic doors and innovative security locks which have led to a reduction in acts of vandalism.

As a result the 10 cabinets located in Florence town centre will add to the city’s appeal, becoming a part of the urban furniture, as well as a new attraction for tourists and residents alike.

According to Erminia Perbellini, Verona City Council assessor for culture, tourism, events and traditions the initiative “is a creative and original way to promote art in the city, catching the attention of tourists and citizens alike. It is an homage to the city’s monuments, which further increases their status as everyone’s heritage.”

Telecom Italia’s initiative will also be introduced in the other principle art cities in Italy; Rome, Florence, Turin, Varese and Cagliari for a grand total of over 300 cabinets throughout the country. The scheme has been brought forward in concert with the respective town councils.
