Starting from Cortina d’Ampezzo and Courmayeur the Telecom Italia project aims at offering mobile ultra-broadband also in the main Italian tourist locations. After the launch in 13 cities (Turin, Milan, Rome, Naples, Ancona, Brindisi, Catanzaro, Forli, Genoa, Padua, Palermo, Taranto, Trento) TIM "ULTRA Internet 4G" LTE-based services are now also available in Cortina d'Ampezzo (Belluno) and Courmayeur (Aosta), allowing citizens and tourists the opportunity to take advantage of data connections with speeds up to 100 Mbit/s in download and up to 50 Mbit/s in upload, thus making HD multimedia content and services also available on the go.
Cortina and Courmayeur are the first tourist locations chosen by Telecom Italia for the nationwide launch of TIM's new services, where the new LTE USB keys and tablets can already be used with dedicated connection offers. Thanks to the LTE technology, which offers download speeds of 5-10 times higher than that of the HSPA network at 14.4 Mbps and more than double that offered by HSPA at 42 Mbps, TIM customers can take advantage of performance and service levels that significantly improve internet browsing and allow the use of innovative content on the move, such as HD video streaming.
The commercial launch of TIM's new 4G services in these two famous tourist locations is the result of important investments made by Telecom Italia to create the new 4G network. This confirms the company's intention to develop increasingly modern networks that are able to offer new technologically advanced services that meet the needs of citizens and the growing amount of traffic generated by mobile phones, USB keys, smartphones and tablets.
The "ULTRA 4G Internet" offer for consumer customers, shortly to be followed by one for the business segment, at this first stage involves tablet and PC connection via USB key and is characterized by higher service levels and data traffic bundle compared to 3G standards, and by TIM Cloud services and the range of exclusive content that enhance the highest network performance.
