TIM and Huawei: LTE Broadcast is coming, the new generation mobile TV, with the first live test in Italy

04/29/2015 - 07:50 PM

Today TIM and Huawei start off the first LTE Broadcast technology live test in Italy, the new generation of mobile TV which, thanks to TIM’s 4G network, allows simultaneous access to multiple events’ live HD contents, through your own mobile device.

In particular, the new LTE Broadcast technology delivers high-definition video and multimedia content, with a quality image up to 4K, and allows a potentially unlimited number of mobile users to watch TV programs and audiovisuals, in particularly crowded venues as a football stadium or major events, with a single transmission flow of data.

The LTE Broadcast is also the best way to offer customers an even more evolved service; the opportunity to follow in real time on their tablets or smartphones several live events taking place simultaneously.

TIM and Huawei make the first user experience at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, in collaboration with AC Milan, during the football match Milan-Genoa, where a group of selected testers will have the opportunity to experience the LTE Broadcast potentiality and simultaneously follow other three games (Sassuolo-Roma, Juventus-Fiorentina and Sampdoria-Verona) with dedicated tablets, experiencing the multi-use environment in real time.

Other demo events will follow this initiative during Expo 2015, of which TIM is Official Global Partner.

“We are particularly proud to start the testing of LTE Broadcast - says Marco Patuano, CEO of Telecom Italia - which will bring the Mobile TV anytime and anywhere with very high quality video content and live streaming simultaneously, thanks to the evolution of TIM’s mobile network. This initiative demonstrates once again the innovation skills of Telecom Italia, confirming the leadership in research and development on the ultra-broadband networks, and also addressing the growing trend of mobile data traffic which - in 2020 - will consist in video content for about 55% of the market, according to estimates. For us, the LTE Broadcast is the opportunity to address this new challenge, relying on LTE technology, one of our most important assets”.

“This is an exciting moment for Huawei. Thanks to the collaboration with TIM, we have presented today the first LTE Broadcast trial in Italy – declared Edward Chan, CEO of Huawei Italy. – As a business that focuses on innovation, our objective is to push technological boundaries together with our customers and partners – for LTE Broadcast that time is now. Our efforts aim at empowering the digital growth of the country by enhancing the digital experience of the users and generating at the same time revenues for our customers; the technology we are showing today is aimed at meeting these objectives.”
