Telecom Italia and Ericsson: co-innovation agreement signed for the development of Internet of things solutions and new Business Models

The initiative aims to create vertical services for the industries enabled by the Ericsson dedicated platform in the Telecom Italia Foundry

Telecom Italia and Ericsson have signed a three-year collaboration agreement for the joint development of innovative solutions in the Internet of Things and Machine to Machine services area.
The partnership aims to create vertical services for the automotive, utility and agricultural industries using the enabling technologies offered by Ericsson's Device Connection Platform to manage M2M connectivity, and by the Service Enablement Platform to enable digital services.The agreement was signed at Telecom Italia's offices by Mario Di Mauro, Telecom Italia's Head of Strategy & Innovation and by Alessandro Francolini, Ericsson's Vice President and Sales Director. The projects will be take shape inside the Foundry, Telecom Italia's innovation workshop where, together with selected partners, the most innovative solutions will be chosen, tested and developed for TIM's up and coming offers in the digital life sector.
In particular, Telecom Italia will deal with designing, experimenting, testing and assessing services on the Ericsson platforms, conveying the jointly developed solutions to the business and consumer markets it operates in. At the same time Ericsson will act as a provider of technological services and solutions, making available its experience in the design and integration of end-to-end Machine to Machine and Internet of Things solutions; Ericsson will also guarantee the interoperability of its solutions with Telecom Italia systems and networks.
According to Mario Di Mauro, Telecom Italia's Head of Strategy & Innovation, “the agreement signed with Ericsson will enrich the Foundry with another important partner for the creation of new concepts of service for its customer base. This is a new innovation model which aims to strengthen joint activities with selected players in the sector so as to create hubs of excellence for the experimentation and codevelopment of new generation services in Italy".
Alessandro Francolini, Ericsson's Vice President and Sales Director stated that “What we at Ericsson call Networked Society, where everything that could benefit from a connection, is connected, is becoming a reality. In fact we estimate that 26 billion devices will be connected by 2020. The new partnership with Telecom Italia on the Internet of Things falls specifically within this scenario and aims to facilitate the development of new services and applications able to transform entire industries and create new markets, once again showing Ericsson to be a flexible and reliable partner for Telecom Italia."
