02/26/2019 - 02:27 PM

Following up on the 5G Cooperation Agreement signed last year at Mobile World Congress to boost the deployment of 5G technologies in Italy, TIM and Qualcomm Technologies Inc. have chosen this year’s industry event to show a live innovative multimedia service based on 5G NR connectivity.

The innovative multimedia service is an advanced second-screen concept developed for video and live streaming content in 5G, with five high resolution content streaming in multi-view. Designed and developed by Vetrya in partnership with TIM, it provides a next generation multimedia experience leveraging on 5G NR connectivity in collaboration with Nokia and a Mi MIX 3 5G smartphone powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 855 Mobile Platform with X50 5G modem and RF Front-End solutions. The demonstration is schedule for showcase in the Qualcomm booth at MWC19, Hall 3, 3E10.

“TIM is very excited to be part of MWC19 with a live 5G multimedia service experience”, comments Mario Di Mauro, Chief Innovation & Customer Experience Officer at TIM. “This significant milestone is the result of our fruitful collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, and it confirms TIM’s leadership in innovation and its commitment to commercialise 5G services in Italy in 2019, along with cutting-edge services and the best digital experience for our customers.”

“We are pleased to have been involved in this important demonstration with TIM” adds Enrico Salvatori, SVP and President, Qualcomm EMEA. “5G is here and demonstrations like this go a long way to show how consumers will be using 5G technology in the coming months.”

Last December, TIM and Qualcomm Technologies collaborated on the launch of TIM’s 5G Innovation Hub in Rome showing the first European 5G NR video call completed on the TIM network on the millimiter wave (mmWave) frequency band.
