FiberCop and Netoip extend co-investment agreement to five more towns

Partnership strengthened to build the FTTH access network in the municipalities of Forlì, Terni, Falconara Marittima, Fano and Monte Urano

TIM Group infrastructure operator FiberCop and Netoip strengthen their partnership aimed at developing the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) access market through Netoip’s involvement in the FiberCop network co-investment project.

On the basis of this new agreement which broadens the agreement signed last December, Netoip will use the fibre optic secondary access network up to FiberCop homes, to develop the Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) access market in another 5 important municipalities in central Italy: Forlì, Terni, Falconara Marittima, Fano and Monte Urano.

The agreement reached confirms the effectiveness of the FiberCop co-investment model, which allows all interested operators to participate in the deployment of optical fibre in Italy in an infrastructure competition framework. FiberCop’s investment plan provides for FTTH coverage of about 60% of Italy’s households by 2026, thereby overcoming the nationwide digital divide faster and making ultra-broadband connections with speeds at over 1 Gigabit per second available to families and businesses.

FiberCop is the infrastructure company controlled by TIM (58%) together with KKR Infrastructure (37.5%) and Fastweb (4.5%), and its goal is to digitalise the country by deploying Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) optical fibre connections.

FiberCop operates on the basis of a co-investment model and is the first case in Europe to see the new European Electronic Communications Code applied at national level.

The company provides operators with fibre optic passive access services, operating with maximum efficiency and to protect people and the environment.

FiberCop has a network asset that already provides UBB connections to over 94% of fixed lines thanks to FTTC and FTTH technologies and will continue to develop FTTH coverage with a connection speed of over 1 Gigabit, in the aim to cover approximately 60% of households nationwide by 2026.

FiberCop aims to make a critical contribution to reducing the digital divide in Italy, speeding up the process of customers switching from copper to fibre.
