Premiering today as an exclusive on TimVision Play is “Dear England – The Penalties of Revenge,” a four-episode British television miniseries that chronicles the rebirth of English soccer at the hands of an unexpected innovator, national team coach Gareth Southgate, played by Joseph Fiennes.
In 1996, 26-year-old England soccer player Gareth Southgate missed a decisive penalty kick in the semifinals of the European Championship. When he became manager of the English national team in 2016, fans reacted with scepticism after years of disappointment over failures in the very sport that England had invented.
As manager, he selects his squad—which includes standout international talents such as Harry Kane and Harry Maguire—and brings sports psychologist Pippa Grange onto the staff, a revolutionary choice that will help the players manage their fears and anxieties, build confidence, and improve their performance on the field.
Based on James Graham’s Olivier Award-winning play, “Dear England – The Penalties of Revenge” tells an authentic and deeply human story of redemption that celebrates character and integrity, far removed from stereotypes. The cast includes Joseph Fiennes, Jodie Whittaker as Pippa Grange, Will Antenbring (Harry Kane), Edem-Ita Duke (Marcus Rashford), and Adam Hugill (Harry Maguire).
The series is produced by Left Bank Pictures, created by James Graham, who also serves as executive producer, and distributed internationally by Sony Pictures.
