TIM and Microsoft announced today a collaboration to support Italy’s digital transformation, combining cloud computing, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Together, the companies will design cloud and digital solutions tailored to Italian organizations, helping accelerate adoption at scale.
By combining skills, resources, connectivity and technology, TIM and Microsoft aim to enable new services for businesses, the Public Administration and citizens.
The collaboration reinforces TIM’s role as an enabler of cloud and digital solutions for enterprises and the Public Administration, in line with its digital sovereignty strategy. It aims to ensure control, resilience and data protection across the value chain through platforms and services managed within the national territory. Microsoft brings extensive experience in helping organizations adopt cloud platforms, generative and agentic AI, and security solutions.
TIM’s internal transformation, with the evolution of its digital workplace, will be the first step. The initiative centres on large‑scale deployment of Microsoft 365 Copilot, alongside the low‑code Power Platform, to make AI a horizontal capability that supports people and business processes.
The collaboration will expand through initiatives to boost productivity and innovation at scale. In parallel, the two companies will explore joint go‑to‑market opportunities, bringing integrated solutions and services to Italian enterprises and the Public Administration. Focus areas include processes that benefit most from generative AI – such as customer operations, document management, operational support and automation – supporting service modernization and digital skills to help drive the country’s growth.
“Italy’s digital growth requires reliable infrastructure, strong security and robust governance of cloud and AI. With a partner like Microsoft, we are strengthening an alliance that combines technology and industrial capabilities, with the goal of delivering concrete innovation for businesses and the Public Administration”, said Pietro Labriola, TIM CEO.
“Cloud and AI are becoming decisive factors for Italy’s competitiveness and growth. With TIM, we are combining local expertise and global technology to enable secure, governed and responsible AI adoption - starting from TIM’s own transformation with Copilot and extending to solutions that support businesses and the public sector across the country”, said Samer Abu‑Ltaif, President, Microsoft Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Within this framework, TIM – through its TIM Enterprise business unit – adopts a multicloud approach that offers customers a comprehensive portfolio, from proprietary platforms with high technological independence to services from leading hyperscalers, integrated and governed to meet requirements for security, performance and compliance. This strengthened collaboration with Microsoft helps bring Microsoft technologies to the Italian market.
Microsoft and TIM will work together to accelerate the adoption of advanced digital solutions in Italy across three main areas:
- Cloud and modernization: supporting the transformation of applications and services toward scalable cloud architectures, with particular attention to continuity and regulatory compliance.
- Security and data governance: strengthening cybersecurity solutions and data management models—from digital identity to information protection—through structured, measurable approaches.
- Artificial intelligence for productivity and services: developing and adopting AI use cases focused on efficiency, service quality and decision support, with attention to controls, policies and risk management to ensure regulatory compliance and inclusive access to AI‑based services.
The collaboration reflects a shared vision for a more connected, digitally advanced Italy, where generative AI helps accelerate growth and innovation across business and society.
