Sustainable products

A set of initiatives to improve the environmental efficiency of our products, from the use of sustainable materials to the reduction of energy consumption, applying the “Design For Environment” rules: all this is TIM Green.

Telephones and modems, as well as decoders and gamepads for gaming, and finally the new SIM card, the TIM Green range stems from collaboration with our suppliers. All components of our eco-sustainable products (including accessories and packaging) are made in accordance with energy efficiency principles and favour the use of eco-compatible, recycled and recyclable materials. They are also designed to simplify separation of the various components when the time comes to dispose of them, so as to further increase their possibility of reuse.

Scrupulous attention is paid to each aspect of all our products and we ensure their compliance with the highest standards to protect the health and safety of consumers, following all national and European directives in both the creation phase and in disposal procedures (for instance, RoHS and WEEE regulations, and European regulations 1275/2008 and 278/2009).

Moreover, as of today, those wishing to make an eco-responsible purchase can also choose one of the reconditioned smartphones available at our stores and online on the TIM website, thereby saving a good 50 kg of CO2, the amount necessary to produce a new one, without renouncing the guarantee of quality certified by TIM with rigorous tests and controls before they go on sale.

Our commitment to offer products with a reduced environmental impact throughout their entire life cycle, both for consumer and business customers, has deep roots. In the late ’90s, thanks to the work of our research and development labs and collaboration with our suppliers, we launched the Telecom Italia Green label, which in 2015 became TIM eco-friendly, to identify initiatives and projects aimed at protecting the environment and eco-compatible products.
TIM Green is a new step forward in this direction: our goal is to be the leaders of new sustainable development and encourage informed behaviour among our customers.

Eco-compatibility characteristics and environmental declarations

Information on the eco-compatibility characteristics and environmental declarations are available for each product, prepared in compliance with Standard UNI EN ISO 14021, which highlight the energy saving obtained and the greenhouse gas emissions avoided as a result, in line with our commitment to fight climate change. Energy consumption has been optimised and reduced through the use of specific solutions that, in the case of broadband products, ensure superior performances to those indicated in the voluntary codes of conduct of the European Union endorsed by TIM.

A green SIM card: our attention to the environment also includes this small gesture of great responsibility.

Our new SIM card is indeed small (half its previous size) and made from 60% recycled plastic. The packaging housing it is made of biodegradable material and the brochure was resized and printed on FSC paper (Forest Stewardship Council) produced under an internationally recognised forest certification system.

With this initiative each year we will save between 9.2 and 13.8 tonnes of plastic, a significant contribution to protect the environment.
