Sustainability, innovation and data for Venice.

05/13/2025 - 06:45 PM

The 19th International Architecture Exhibition is underway in Venice. International Architecture Exhibition, curated by internationally renowned architect and innovator Carlo Ratti. The entire exhibition, entitled ‘Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective', is an invitation to search together for new forms of thought and action to respond to the complex relationship between the natural ecosystem and the urban scenario.

It hosts the special project Intelligent Venice: the oldest city of the future, an exhibition realised by the Fondazione Venezia Capitale Mondiale della Sostenibilità with the contribution of several partners including TIM and curated by Benno Albrecht of the Università Iuav di Venezia, Renato Brunetta, president of the VSF, Pierpaolo Campostrini of Corila and Paolo Costa of C+3C Sistemi e Strategie. The exhibition tells the story of Venice by showing how the city has adapted and evolved over the centuries. It covers 500 square metres and includes a wide variety of materials, including 5 multimedia panels, over 5000 archive images, more than 1000 historical maps and over 3 hours of video projections.

This exhibition is an opportunity to reflect on Venice's ability to be a model of sustainable and intelligent city management: through the various exhibition areas the public is told about invisible urban flows, adaptive infrastructures (such as the MOSE system), water management strategies and new models of sustainable tourism. The lagoon is now an intelligent space, able to offer solutions that can be replicated in other contexts, and with the collection and analysis of data, it has become a dynamic city, capable of evolving thanks to collective intelligence and technological innovation.

TIM Enterprise, our business unit also responsible for supporting public administrations in the smart digitisation of cities and territories, is one of the protagonists of this project and has set up the exhibition space that tells the story of the technology we use to collect and analyse urban data on Venice. The ‘technological heart’ that runs this wonderful city is in fact the Smart Control Room, realised in collaboration with the City Council and other strategic partners. It is a space where technology, artificial intelligence and predictive analysis are integrated to ensure a more efficient and sustainable management of the city.

The exhibition highlights anonymised data and images from the Smart Control Room and the TIM Urban Genius urban intelligence platform, allowing public administrations such as Venice's to take a concrete step towards creating more citizen-friendly and efficient cities for administrations.
