Telecom Italia: Agreement with Telefonica to extend WIFI Coverage to Spain

11/16/2005 - 12:00 PM

International roaming agreement enables all Telecom Italia customers in Spain to use their Italian WiFi account to connect wirelessly to the internet and access broadband services

Telecom Italia WiFi now available in 51 countries from more than 31,000 hotspots worldwide

Telecom Italia and Telefonica have signed an international roaming agreement that extends WiFi service coverage to Spain.

Telecom Italia customers in Spain can now wirelessly connect to the internet and access broadband services from any of the company’s more than 1,500 hotspots simply by entering their username and password and then following the usual procedure to establish a wireless connection. There’s no need to sign up for the service; customers simply use their usual Italian account.

Conversely, Telefonica customers can access Telecom Italia’s WiFi service from any of the company’s more than 800 hotspots across the country.

This agreement follows Telecom Italia’s agreement with PT Wi-Fi Portugal and extends WiFi roaming coverage throughout the entire Iberian peninsula. Telecom Italia’s WiFi service is now available in 51 nations from more than 31,000 hotspots around the world through specific roaming agreements with leading international providers.

Telecom Italia and Telefonica are members of the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), which includes the world’s leading telecommunications companies. The Wireless Broadband Alliance was founded in March 2003 to promote the adoption of wireless broadband technology and services around the world by unifying sales, technical and marketing approaches and ensuring carrier network interoperability.
