Telecom Italia and Intel: agreement to develop new broadband services

01/09/2006 - 12:00 PM

The collaboration between the two companies provides joint initiatives
for home entertainment, healthcare and for the development of new technologies.
As a result of this understanding, thematic channels and contents of Rosso Alice portal
will be available for PCs with the new Intel® Viiv™ technology.

Telecom Italia and Intel have signed an agreement for the development of innovative applications and services for home entertainment, healthcare and for research and development of new technologies.

One of the main objectives of this understanding is to promote the digital home and digital office, through the use of interactive devices that can “talk to each other”, and the access to multimedia contents also of those people who are not technology enthusiast.

Thanks to Telecom Italia broadband services and to Entertainment PCs with the new Intel® Viiv™ technology(1), it will be possible to share in a simple way, pictures, videos, music and videogames, among different devices even simultaneously, for example from mobile phone to PC, from PC to TV set or to hi-fi, just by using a remote control(2). “Recognized” third parties will be able to access this content over high-speed internet links.

Broadband connection options range from the fixed-line network to a variety of mobile technologies (UMTS, HSDPA, Wimax, Wibro, etc). Business customers can use the technology to download large files, make high-quality videocalls, or access corporate e-mail addresses and intranets simply from anywhere.

Moreover, users can enjoy all the on-demand contents of Rosso Alice thematic channels with the innovative Entertainment PCs with Intel Intel® Viiv™ technology. Rosso Alice is one of the very first portals in Europe verified for the Intel® Viiv™ technology.

Regarding healthcare, Telecom Italia and Intel will be developing ad hoc wireless telemedicine applications to monitor elderly people and patients, alongside technology-led solutions to enhance wireless communication and data exchange among hospital wards.

Intel, and Intel Viiv are trademarks or registered trademarks of Intel Corporation or its subsidiaries in the United States and other countries.
(1)Home networking capability and many Intel® Viiv™ technology-based usage models will require additional hardware devices, software or services. Functionality of Intel Viiv technology verified devices will vary; check product details for desired features. System and component performance and functionality will vary depending on your specific hardware and software configurations.
(2)Remote control may be sold separately.
