06/09/2009 - 06:00 PM

The Brazilian Communications Minister Hélio Costa met Telecom Italia's management today in Rome during an institutional visit to Italy.

During the meeting subjects of communal interest in the telecommunications sector were discussed, with the aim of strengthening the collaboration between Telecom Italia and Brazil; in particular work groups have been set up and some technological projects with strong social characteristics were launched within the telemedicine sector using TIM Brasil's mobile broadband - of particular significance in such a widespread territory - as well as the management of emergency situations linked to natural disasters. In previous days, Minister Costa also visited Telecom Italia's Future Centre in Venice where some Brazilian researchers are also involved in various projects dealing with the evolution of the telecommunications sector, in collaboration with the Università Pontificia di Rio de Janeiro.

At the end of today's meetings Minister Hélio Costa underlined how: “the success of the co-operation between the two countries in the telecommunications sector, strongly linked to the presence of Telecom Italia in Brazil over many years, finds further areas where to share this experience", adding that "thanks to its know-how, Telecom Italia is also an industrial partner and an important collaborator for the development of projects and policies with strong social connotations".

Franco Bernabè said that “the consolidated presence of Telecom Italia in Brazil through TIM Brasil, a fundamental pillar of the Group's strategy, allows us to collaborate and share significant experiences of telecommunications applications which can contribute to the wellbeing of the local population, just as is happening in Italy where Telecom Italia has always worked in order to improve technological infrastructure imperative for telecommunications in the country".
