TIM is launching TIM Green, a new line of low environmental impact solutions and services, aiming to reduce emissions and to meet circular economy standards. Starting from summer, the Group will offer its customers new eco-friendly products that will allow for atmospheric emissions to be significantly reduced.
As a result, the Group has decided to sell refurbished smartphones and a new ‘green SIM’, which, in addition to being half the size, is manufactured with 60% of recycled plastic and comes in entirely biodegradable packaging. This SIM will reduce plastic consumption by around 13 tonnes per year. Modems and cordless phones will also be offered with sustainability in mind, by adopting eco-design criteria through the use of recycled and recyclable materials.
The new TIM Green line is constantly evolving and will also include measures with a view to the circular economy, envisaging the recycling of used smartphones. For instance, TIM already allows customers to hand in their used device in exchange for solutions for purchasing a new product (TIM Supervaluta). In addition, using TIM Next, a virtuous process of reintroducing used products onto the market begins: customers can purchase a smartphone in instalments and, after one year, choose whether to keep, replace or return it.
TIM’s initiatives to reduce plastic and electronic waste form part of a wider company project to reduce CO2 emissions, with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. The company’s path towards a sustainable future also continues with innovative solutions that improve people’s quality of life, their working environments and their cities, and promotes awareness through information supplied via the "Operazione Risorgimento Digitale" project.
