Telecom Italia: third edition of the WEB FACTORY competition for Italy’s emerging web talents

The third edition of the competition for Italy’s emerging web talents is off to a start.

First offline event with second edition winners to take place on October 17, in the context of Romaeuropa Festival 2010.

10/15/2010 - 12:15 PM

The third edition of Romaeuropa Webfactory, the creative workshop resulting from the collaboration between Fondazione Romaeuropa and Telecom Italia, opened today. This year the community of the web’s most active artists, now comprising over 13,000 members, will build on the successes of previous years and will launch many new initiatives.

For the first time this year, Romaeuropa Webfactory’s search for young creative talent will extend to three new categories: Jpeggy, the photography contest that continues the legacy of the project through which Telecom Italia and Amaci have already selected throusands of photos on the web, Tweeteratura, which will seek out young, talented writers capable of telling an original story in 140 characters (inxluding spaces) or less, and Apps, the competition dedicated to creators and developers of innovative Facebook and iPhone applications. The selection of talented young individuals capable of expressing their artistic potential through video clips and through electronic music and digital sounds will also continue with the Video Art and Music@ competitions respectively.

As always, each area will be coordinated by an artist, a critic or an expert that will follow all stages of the competition and will provide useful ideas and advice to aprticipants: namely, reporter Susanna Legrenzi for Jpeggy, Wired Italia editor Riccardo Luna for Tweeteratura, blogger and technology expert Marco Zamperini for Apps, renowned visual artist duo Masbedo for Video Art, and finally, for Music@, Jon Hopkins, the multi-faceted musician who has worked with artists such as Brian Eno and Coldplay.

The total prize for each category amounts to €5000 in gold tokens. Winners will be selected by a popular jury comprising all members of the REWF online community, in addition to the quality jury composed of the tutors of the individual contests as well as leading figures from the world of the creative arts.

The complete rules and regulations of the competition may be viewed on the REWF web site.

An offline REFW event will also take place on Sunday, October 17 at Teatro Palladium, in the context of the Romaeuropa Festival 2010: an evening dedicated to the digital arts featuring Christian Fennesz and Giuseppe La Spada, tutor of the previous edition of REWF, in a performance/concert in which they will encounter Lilies on Mars, winners of the Music@ 2009 contest, and the Webfactory’s creative community. The music will be performed by Fennesz, while electronics guru La Spada will be in charge of visuals.

Romaeuropa Webfactory is the result of the collaboration between Fondazione Romaeuropa, active in the world of culture and the arts and organizer of the Romaeuropa Festival, which is held in Rome every autumn, and Telecom Italia, committed to developing technology and to spreading digital culture in Italy.

REWF is also sponsored by the Province of Roma, is a partner of Museo nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo [National Museum of the Arts of the 21st century] - MAXXI and actively collaborates with many other protagonists of the Italian and international cultural and artistic scene.
