Telecom Italia is gaining speed by providing ultra-fast Internet access in Emilia Romagna and launching “Ultra Internet” services in the industrial districts of Bologna based on the new optical fibre network, providing an Internet connection for home and office use with current download speeds of up to 30 Mb/s. The technology used by Telecom Italia will allow faster connections to be established in future, potentially of up to 100 Mb/s.

Businesses in Castel Maggiore, San Giovanni in Persiceto, Casalecchio di Reno, Zola Predosa and San Lazzaro di Savena can therefore take advantage of performance and service levels that dramatically improve the experience of surfing the net. Telecom Italia's optical fibre network currently exists in many areas of the five municipalities of Bologna and will achieve almost 70% coverage of the industrial districts in 2014.

Telecom Italia is also continuing to work on the new optical fibre infrastructure in Emilia Romagna, including the enterprise hubs of Castenaso, Formigine and Rubiera in the national plan for the development of the NGAN (Next Generation Access Network), which is expected to reach 600 cities by 2016, covering 12,4 million households, corresponding to over 50% of the population. The initiative confirms the company's desire to build an increasingly modern infrastructure to offer more and more technologically advanced services.

The potential of optical fibre allows HD video, high quality multiplayer online gaming and multimedia content to be used simultaneously on smartphones, tablets and smart TVs. Companies can also access the world of professional IT solutions offered by Impresa Semplice.

Ultrabroadband also enables innovative applications, such as telepresence, video surveillance, cloud computing services for businesses, as well as applications allowing local authorities to implement the smart city model, including systems for security and monitoring the territory, infomobility and sensor networks for environmental tele-monitoring.

Solutions are available from 29 Euros per month for consumer customers and 35 Euros per month for business customers (on promotion for the first 6 and 12 months respectively).

In Emilia Romagna, “Ultra Internet” services are also already available in Bologna, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Ferrara, Rimini, Forlì and Imola.
