Syracuse is among the Italian cities chosen by Telecom Italia to launch its "Ultra internet" services on its new optical fibre network, allowing Internet super-fast connections to be used at home or at work with a download speed of 30 Mb/s. The technology used by Telecom Italia will allow faster connections to be established in future, potentially of up to 100 Mb/s.

In Syracuse, optical fibre services for private citizens and businesses are now available, thanks to an already extensive coverage in many areas of the city, that will reach over 33,000 households by the end of the year, thanks to the 68 km of optical fibre cables being laid to connect around 250 roadside cabinets to the respective exchanges. Telecom Italia expects to reach 80% of the population by the end of 2015.

The commercial launch of optical fibre services in Syracuse, based on FTTCab (Fiber to the Cabinet) technology, is the result of major investments made by Telecom Italia to install the new NGAN (Next Generation Access Network) in the city. Indeed the company confirms its desire to develop an increasingly modern infrastructure offering technologically evolved services that fulfil the requirements of private citizens and businesses, enabling a "digital life" model, rich in technological performance and innovative applications based on new generation networks.

Solutions are available from 29 euros per month for consumer customers and 35 euros per month for business customers (on promotion for the first 6 and 12 months respectively).
