Digital booths and the cities of the future

TIM innovation illustrated at Italian Tech Week

10/04/2023 - 04:24 PM

From 27 to 29 September, the Italian Tech Week was held at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni in Turin. The annual event brings together the best innovative companies, entrepreneurs, institutions and all the leaders in digital change to talk about the future and cutting-edge technology.

TIM Group was there during the three days, bringing its vision of the future and the new technology solutions it is implementing for cities.

Ready for the future

During Italian Tech Week, TIM CEO Pietro Labriola presented a preview of the new digital booths made in collaboration with Urban Vision, which will replace TIM's “vintage” telephone booths.

These booths will be real “smart stations”, with different services for the community, from infotainment and smartphone charging to digital payment ticketing and free calls to landlines and mobile numbers in Italy. They will be installed across the country, particularly in tourist towns and places, and they will also become important for security thanks to their video surveillance functions and the Women+ button for women in danger.

Furthermore, the new cabins will have special sensor applications that will allow people with motor disabilities or language or visual barriers to access personalised information and digital services quickly and easily.
The digital booth project truly represents TIM’s vision of advanced, sustainable, and inclusive technology innovation which will impact social life and bring real benefits to the community.

The Smart City model

Our vision of innovation also passes through to TIM Enterprise, the TIM Group's business unit that offers cloud, artificial intelligence, 5G and IoT solutions and services to companies and public administrations and plays a leading role in the digital transformation of our cities, making them increasingly liveable, sustainable, safe and capable of enhancing the country's cultural and artistic heritage.

Elio Schiavo, TIM's Chief Enterprise and Innovative Solutions Officer, talked about this during a double interview on the Italian Tech Week stage with Fabio Fregi, Country Manager Google Cloud Italia, where he defined this collaboration as the track on which the country's digital transformation process is being realised.

The meeting was also an opportunity to promote the "TIM AI Challenge" launched on 26 September. This is TIM’s third challenge created to gather solutions and projects created by start-ups, scale-ups and the most promising and innovative companies in the country, and, this year, it focuses on artificial intelligence with the aim of accelerating its adoption by Italian companies and in the PA.

Speaking of development opportunities, Attilio Somma, Head of Product Innovation and Center of Excellence, led a panel at Italian Tech Week entitled "Business Opportunities with TIM Enterprise and Google Cloud", during which the Digital Players business programme was presented, providing scale-ups and start-ups with cloud services, marketing and technology support to accelerate their growth. The event was full of suggestions on how to grow the scale-up system in Italy, and it gave TIM the chance to speak about the role it wants to play in accelerating the distribution of start-ups on the market.
