TIM returns to Pompeii to bring the past and the future together

10/12/2022 - 01:50 PM

Enjoy the symbolic places of our historical and artistic heritage in a whole new way. Have an engaging and exciting experience, combining the past and the future in a brand new perspective, reclaiming ancient and precious places and times. This is one of the strengths of TIM's connections, a great opportunity for our country's cultural sites, which, thanks to digital applications, are ready to welcome the public in a new and spectacular way.

The TIM Group provides all the skills and technologies to enrich cultural experiences and make visits to archaeological parks or museum complexes, as well as major events such as concerts or theatre performances, unprecedented. Augmented and extended reality, 5G and the brand new 5G millimetre-wave in collaboration with Qualcomm, IoT, and Cloud along with holograms and projection mapping, are some of the innovative technologies we mix in the turnkey solutions that the TIM Enterprise business unit makes available to organisations and cultural centres, thanks also to the contribution and expertise of Olivetti  and Noovle, both part of the TIM Group.

On 21 October, it will be possible to experience these solutions during the immersive concert event by Max Gazzè, of which TIM is the sole sponsor and technology partner — a special tribute to Live at Pompeii, the concert film made by Pink Floyd in that same location in 1971. During this special event, which the public will be able to attend live and stream through the ItsArt platform, the music will merge with lights and digital images, in 3D and augmented reality, for a show in which Pompeii's most iconic symbols and architecture will take on colour and life again, restoring an unprecedented dimension to the excavations Amphitheatre.

This event is also part of TIM's initiatives to enhance Italy's art and cultural heritage with technology. Pompeii was, in fact, the protagonist in October 2021 of another concert event linked to the 50th anniversary of the filming of the Pink Floyd concert film. On that occasion, the virtual and augmented reality and light mapping installations created thanks to TIM technologies had animated the stands of the amphitheatre, providing the backdrop for a special screening of the documentary Reliving at Pompeii.

In Taormina, at the TaoBuk Awards Festival, we talked about and showed how art and technology can come together, even at the awarding of the 2022 TaoTIM Prize for innovative start-ups and SMEs, which rewarded one of the emerging companies in developing metaverse platforms.
