To promote the culture of digital innovation in Italy and foster the realization of a National Digital Agenda, recognising the role the Regions play as the vital link between local schemes, based on the needs and characteristics of the specific area, and national and EU policies.

This is the reason why of Telecom Italia's “Italia Connessa – Agende Digitali Regionali”, a snapshot of digital adoption in the Italian regions, providing key indicators on infrastructure endowment, the availability of digital services and their use by citizens, firms and government agencies, as measured against the other Regions and the European and Italian objectives.

This contribution is intended as a starting point to help Regional Administrations to carry out a complete Digital Check Up, to enable comparison with other Italian and European regions, assess progress against the national and EU Digital Agendas, test the availability of funding and shape their regional digital development plans.

Indeed, most of the Digital Agenda goals can only be achieved with the active input of local governments who understand the precise needs of their citizens and firms and are best placed to identify the obstacles to be overcome and the measures to be taken based on the specific characteristics of the territory.

Through the Decreto Crescita 2.0 (Growth Bill), the Italian Digital Agenda poses great challenges for all market participants in trying to bridge the biggest gaps in Italy in terms of use of computers and the web, the automation of public services, ICT spending by business, the diffusion of digital services, as well as the digital divide in infrastructure in so called 'areas of market failure'.

The document will be sent out to all Regional Authorities and its content was illustrated today in Bologna by Oscar Cicchetti, Telecom Italia Strategy Director, at a conference entitled 'Digital Agendas, a Challenge for the Regions', organized by the Emilia Romagna Region in collaboration with Lepida.

“Telecom Italia intends to make a concrete contribution to driving digitalization in this country, in line with the goals of the Digital Agenda, stated Oscar Cicchetti, Telecom Italia Strategy Director. We are convinced that each Region must create its own Digital Agenda, closely aware of its specific areas of excellence and weakness. 'Italia Connessa' provides a frame of reference for this and Telecom Italia hopes to pose as a credible partner to the Regions in the development of infrastructure and services.”
