For the fourth consecutive year, Telecom Italia is the Partner of the Festivalettarutura, the most important Italian festival for Italian and international literature, taking place in Mantua from 4 to 8 September.

With the aim of also involving the broader internet audience in the literary passion of established and emerging authors in an interactive way, Telecom Italia presents several initiatives.

With “scrittori in web” (writers on the web) six meetings with major international authors will streamed in direct on telecomitalia.com/scrittoriinweb: Tomaso Montanari and Salvatore Settis; Alessandro Bergonzoni; David Grossman with Giulio Busi; Lella Costa with Stefania Bertola, Bianca Tarozzi and Vanna Vinci; Carlo Lucarelli with Andrea Buffa and Massimo Picozzi; Dacia Maraini with Chiara Valerio.

The appointments will include live chats moderated by an expert from the world of literature, and activities on the Group social network channels that will enable everyone connected to the internet to interact with the authors in real time (#ScrittoriInWeb).

“scrittori in web” also includes “Tracce” (Traces), a rich programme of twenty four meetings moderated by Maurizio Matrone at the Spazio Telecom Italia in Piazza Sordello (#Tracce), which will range from classical culture to the most current topics, and they will subsequently be made available on demand on the dedicated site.

There is also space for talent promotion, with “Italiax10. Gli autori di domani (The authors of tomorrow): ten emerging Italian authors, selected by Festivaletteratura Mantua, who will recount their personal and professional journey to the public in the piazza and on the web, attempting to answer the question “why write?”. The appointment will be on Thursday 5 September at 2.00 pm in Piazza Castello, and will be streamed live and on demand on the website italiax10.telecomitalia.com. People will be able to interact live with the 10 protagonists, using the hashtag #Italiax10.

There will also be a special event tomorrow, Wednesday 4 September, in Piazza Sordello: “Lo spazio della lettura. Informazione e conoscenza nell’epoca della rete”  (The reading space. Information and knowledge in the internet age), a debate with Franco Bernabè and Giuseppe Laterza, moderated by Anna Masera (in the Spazio Telecom Italia from 4.00 to 5.00 p.m.)

The whole debate will be streamed live on the website telecomitalia.com/scrittoriinweb

With the delivery and support of these initiatives, Telecom Italia wants to contribute to make the internet more and more a cultural tool that can bring closer and disseminate contemporary knowledge.
In 2012, the appointments at the Festivaletteratura in Mantua streamed live and on demand by Telecom Italia were watched by over 35,000 users, with over 85,000 page views of the dedicated site. On the social networks, initiatives generated over 2,500 conversations that together reached a total of over 17 million internet users.
These results confirm that today the internet can extend the possibilities of access to the cultural debate, while at the same time preserving the quality of the proposed content, just like books, which have always represented the principal means of transmitting knowledge.
